Isaiah 61:1-7
1. God Invites the Weary to Come and Be Restored
61 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn (Isaiah 61:1-2 ESV)
2. God Restores Identity Before He Assigns Responsibility
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3-4 ESV)
3. God Sends People Forward as Part of Their Restoration
4 Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, They will raise up the former devastations; And they will repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.
5 Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks, And foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers. 6 But you will be called the priests of the Lord;
You will be spoken of as ministers of our God. (Isaiah 61: 4-7 NASB)
