Jesus’ Thoughts on the Bible

Jesus affirms the enduring authority of Scripture, stating that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. Jesus shows deep reverence for God's Word, teaching that not even the smallest part will disappear until all is accomplished. He challenges us to go beyond outward obedience and embrace a heart-level righteousness that reflects the true spirit of the law. This passage reminds us that the Bible is not outdated but is fully realized in Christ, and our commitment to it should shape our lives.

1. The BIBLE is Fulfilled in Jesus

Matthew 5:17 NIV17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

2. The BIBLE Matters to Jesus

Matthew 5:18–19 NIV18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

3. The BIBLE Shows What Only Jesus Can do

Matthew 5:20 NIV20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

  • Religious Rules can Restrain Sin but Only Jesus can Remove It
