Pursing Peace: Following the Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6 NIV6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
• Sar Shalom = Prince of Peace
• Sar: leader, the one in charge
• Shalom: rest, tranquility & wholeness
- The Prince of Peace Gives us Peace WITH God
Romans 5:1 CSB1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
- The Prince of Peace Gives us the Peace OF God
Isaiah 26:3 ESV3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
John 14:27 (CSB)27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.
- Our Peace isn’t in a Perfect Situation, It’s in a Perfect Savior
1. List everything you have fear, anxiety or concern about & imagine placing it at His feet
“God, I feel afraid of __________ but I am placing this at your feet. Your perfect love casts out fear.
“God, this ________ makes me feel anxious but I’m placing this at your feet. I trust that you are working on my behalf”
“God, I’m so mad about ___________ but I’m placing this at your feet. I will not give anger a foothold”
2. Pray these Scriptures:
Proverbs 3:5–6 CSB
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.
Philippians 4:6–7 CSB
6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:8–9 NLT
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
