The Power of a Father's Voice
At Jesus' baptism, God spoke thirteen transformative words that reveal the power of a father's voice: 'This is my son, whom I love, and in him I am well pleased.' These words weren't just for Jesus but demonstrate how our Heavenly Father speaks to each of us as His children. The Father's voice impacts us in four significant ways: it tells us who we are, communicates His unconditional love, offers encouragement before we've proven ourselves, and provides necessary correction and guidance. Many people try to build their identity on things like money, relationships, or personal preferences, but our true identity comes from our Creator. God affirms our identity as His beloved children before we've done anything to earn it. This stands in contrast to our performance-based culture that demands we prove our worth. God's voice also guides us, as He later added 'Listen to him' when speaking about Jesus. By intentionally listening to God through Scripture, worship, and community, we can learn to hear His voice more clearly and then speak similar words of life and love to those around us, especially if we're parents or mentors.
